emohn  > Motorcycles > Lap of Kentucky 2010
The Lap of Kentucky is a four day, 1400 mile trip around the perimeter of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The route follows as closely as possible to the borders of the state using a minimum of highways, opting instead for the two lane, one lane, and sometimes no-lane byways. This year's Lap would be my first big ride, having only been riding motorcycles for 3 months. The KLR performed flawlessly, I didn't have too many 'oh $#@' moments, and I arrived safely home - tired, hot, and happy - in time for Fathers Day dinner with my folks.

Obligatory poser shot Thursday morning in my driveway (well, mostly) before heading to BMW/HD of Louisville to meet up with the riders and start the Lap.
Bikes of all sorts and brands line up at Harley-Davidson / BMW Motorcycles of Louisville for the start of the 2010 Lap of Kentucky - sponsored by BMW Motorcycles of Louisville, Kentucky ADVenture Riders, and with proceeds going towards the Wounded Warrior Project of Ft Knox, KY.
Of course we all got to spend some time drooling over BMW's and Harley's offerings in the showroom over coffee and donuts while waiting for the ride to start.
Mark's 2008 KLR would be the only companion to my KLR on this trip, and we were part of a small few that rode smaller displacement dual sport/enduro bikes. Most rode more street oriented machines... not a bad idea.
My KLR alongside Tim's XR650 (named the WoodsWing), prior to the start of the ride. Time travels even lighter than I do, but was well prepared for any roadside repair and seemed comfortable throughout the ride.
We're finally underway and riding out through downtown Louisville at the tail end of Thursday morning rush hour traffic.
This one is a bit out of sequence, as we're riding along River Road in Louisville just east of downtown at this point.
Finally, out of the city and riding across Oldham County on Hwy 42.
After passing through Bedford, KY, we picked up 421, 36, and then 42 again riding north and then east along the banks of the Ohio River heading in the direction of Cincinatti. We passed through the towns of Milton, Carrolton, Ghent, and Warsaw.
